Why I support families with learning at home
Families come to education with very different experiences and feelings. For many children, school can be a rich and positive environment, offering friendships, structure and opportunities to learn together. For others, however, aspects such as the pace of the day, large class sizes, anxiety, additional needs, or simply the way a child learns can make school feel much more challenging.
Over time, I have seen how difficult it can be for parents when their concerns don’t feel fully heard or understood. Even within caring schools, systems and pressures can sometimes make it hard to respond flexibly to individual children, leaving families feeling unsure, dismissed or alone in trying to find the right support.
It is often at this point that parents begin to look for alternative or additional ways to support their children’s learning — not because they lack ambition or commitment, but because they know their child well and want something that better fits.
Young’s Home Education Consultancy was created to offer warm, professional and personal support to families navigating these decisions. Our work is built on the belief that when we genuinely listen to parents, we can tailor guidance to their individual circumstances and help children thrive in ways that feel right for them.
Drawing on many years of experience supporting teaching and learning, my role is to listen carefully, work collaboratively with families, and help parents develop approaches that feel achievable, informed and suited to their child — whatever educational path they choose.

My Experience & How I Work
The parents I work with support their children's learning because they care deeply about their education and want an approach that genuinely fits them. It’s a positive, thoughtful decision — and with the right support, children thrive.
I’m a qualified primary teacher and assistant headteacher, with experience across the primary range. Much of my career has focused on working alongside other adults — mentoring, coaching and supporting people to feel more confident in the decisions they’re making for the children they care about.
Alongside classroom teaching, I’ve spent many years developing teaching and learning more widely, supporting colleagues in school and across the borough to reflect on practice, adapt approaches and respond to the needs of different children and families. This work has shaped a calm, collaborative way of working that values trust, reflection and practical next steps over judgement or one-size-fits-all solutions.
During the Covid lockdowns, I supported children both in school and at home with my own family. This experience reinforced something I’ve seen time and again: when parents feel informed, reassured and supported, children benefit enormously — whatever form their education takes.
I work alongside parents, recognising that you know your child best, and offering professional insight and practical strategies to develop your teaching potential.
With over 20 years in primary education, leadership and teaching development, I bring practical, classroom-tested insight to families supporting learning at home.
